61 iRobot Statistics on Revenue, Shipments, Customers and Costs

iRobot’s reported scale changed sharply across fiscal 2021–2024: revenue, robot shipments, staffing and operating results all moved materially over the period. The figures below distinguish worldwide company shipments from customer measures, GAAP from non-GAAP results, and historical tariff disclosures from current operating data.

iRobot Revenue, Shipments and Long-Term Scale

iRobot’s fiscal calendar uses 52- or 53-week years. The reported revenue and shipment series shows a smaller consolidated business in fiscal 2024 than in fiscal 2021, while the cumulative installed history remained substantial.

Fiscal period Total revenue Robot units shipped
FY2021, ended January 1, 2022 $1.564987 billion 5.602 million
FY2022, ended December 31, 2022 $1.183383 billion 4.182 million
FY2023, ended December 30, 2023 $890.580 million 3.034 million

The shipment figures are worldwide company shipments, not retail sell-through, end-user purchases or an active installed-base estimate. iRobot said it had sold more than 50 million consumer robots worldwide by its fiscal 2024 filing; that cumulative statement is not a precise audited total.

Fiscal 2024 included both GAAP losses and separately presented non-GAAP measures. The measures should not be treated as interchangeable: iRobot defines non-GAAP figures separately, and they are not substitutes for GAAP results.

  • Fiscal 2024 GAAP gross profit was $142.357 million, while GAAP gross margin was 20.9%.
  • Fiscal 2024 non-GAAP gross margin was 21.9%; the company’s release noted a $26.6 million manufacturing-transition charge affecting GAAP margin.
  • Fiscal 2024 GAAP operating loss was $103.0 million, compared with a fiscal 2024 non-GAAP operating loss of $117.8 million.
  • Fiscal 2024 GAAP net loss per diluted share was $4.92.
  • Fiscal 2023 GAAP operating loss was $264.1 million, while fiscal 2022 GAAP net loss was $286.3 million.
  • Fiscal 2021 non-GAAP operating income was $38.256 million, equal to a 2.4% non-GAAP operating margin.

iRobot Connected Customers, Product Mix and Pricing Data

Connected customers are a company-defined measure, not a survey estimate of active users during a specified period. iRobot reported 17.6 million connected customers worldwide at the end of fiscal 2022, with connected customers up 26% from 2021 to 2022.

The company’s price-band data describes MSRP categories and robot sales, while average gross selling price describes worldwide shipments. These are different measures and should not be read as consumer street prices.

iRobot Geographic Revenue and Quarterly Performance Statistics

The fourth quarter of 2024 provides a period-specific view of revenue pressure across iRobot’s reported geographies. These changes include foreign-currency effects where the company specified them and should not be generalized to every quarter or fiscal year.

  • Q4 2024 revenue was down 47% year over year in the United States.
  • Q4 2024 revenue was down 34% year over year in Japan, including foreign-currency effects.

The company said fiscal 2024 operating expenses were reduced by $126.4 million versus fiscal 2023, excluding a $75.2 million parent-termination-fee benefit and a $13.5 million litigation-settlement benefit. Those exclusions matter because the reported reduction is not a simple comparison of every one-time item.

iRobot Cash, Inventory, Tariffs and Financial-Risk Statistics

Balance-sheet figures provide a snapshot rather than a full-year cash-flow measure. iRobot held $134.3 million in cash and cash equivalents on December 28, 2024, compared with $99.4 million at the end of Q3 2024 on September 28, 2024.

  • Inventory was $76.0 million on December 28, 2024, compared with $152.5 million at the end of Q4 2023.
  • Inventory was $149.2 million on September 28, 2024, the end of Q3 2024.
  • iRobot had $41.1 million of additional restricted cash on September 28, 2024 set aside for future term-loan repayment; the company said $40.0 million was later drawn for inventory purchases.
  • The fiscal 2024 manufacturing-transition charge was $26.6 million for the full year, including $8.2 million in Q4 2024; the company tied the charge to excess component inventory and non-cancelable purchase commitments.

Historical tariff disclosures describe policy exclusions, refunds and receivables, not current consumer prices or current operating revenue. In its fiscal 2022 filing, iRobot said a Section 301 tariff exclusion entitled it to an approximately $32.0 million refund tied to 2022–2023 activity; it had received $26.8 million by December 31, 2022, with $5.2 million recorded as a receivable.

The fiscal 2021 filing described a 2020 exclusion as eliminating a 25% tariff on Roomba products imported from China and as entitling iRobot to approximately $57.0 million in historical refunds for tariffs paid since Section 301 tariffs were imposed. These are separate historical disclosures and should not be combined into one current refund figure.
